Who we are

Two Words Coffee is an independent specialty coffee roaster based in Liverpool. Founded in 2024 by Tian Tso, Allison Whorton and Tom Sumner, three friends who met working together in the city's café scene, we roast small batches of carefully sourced coffees and ship them across the UK and Europe.

Our roasting philosophy is simple: source excellent coffee from farmers who care about their land, and roast it in a way that lets it speak for itself. No dark roasts masking poor quality. No blends hiding origins. Just coffee roasted to showcase its natural flavour, character and potential.

Liverpool's specialty coffee scene

Liverpool's specialty coffee community is growing fast and we're proud to be part of it, connecting the city with growers from Colombia, Kenya, El Salvador, Ethiopia and beyond.

We started out collaborating with the café community on Bold Street, where Liverpool's independent food and drink scene has long been centred. Now roasting from our home in Liverpools Georgian Quarter, we're building something more permanent: a roastery that puts the city on the map for excellent, small-batch specialty coffee.

Direct from the farm

We don't buy our coffee based on taste alone, we get to know the people growing it. In September 2024, we visited Finca Puerto Alegre in Quindio, Colombia, where Jairo Lopez and his family have been cultivating coffee for over three generations. Jairo's father, Don Moises, chose to maintain shade cover on his land back in the 1970s when most producers were switching to full sun. That decision, prioritising sustainability over yield, is exactly the kind of farming we want to support.

The Natural Castillo we brought back from that trip is still one of our most loved coffees. Strawberry laces, creamy body, grown at 1400 metres above sea level. That's the Two Words way: know where your coffee comes from, and make sure it tastes like somewhere worth knowing.
